For this project, we are working with the Hewlett-Packard Company in China. They provide us an interesting type of material called Tyvek. In return, we will be creating a gown or cocktail dress that is suitable for exhibition.
Tyvek is a synthetic textile that is made of high-density polyethylene fibers. The fabric is very strong and difficult to tear. However it can easily be cut with scissors or a knife (Dupont, n.d.).
The Tyvek that Hp provided us has already been printed with modern and color print. My group members and I decide to use the black and white print because it matches with the original white Tyvek. The print is also very modern and simple.

Sketch for Hp Print
We are trying to make the dress elegant and adorable, however, still adding more artist element to the dress so that it can catch more attention in an exhibition. The inner layer bodice will be a simple style corset that covered with white Tyvek.
For the outer layer I will drape something more interesting using the print fabric.
For the skirt, we are doing a pattern that is very popular these years which is shorter at front, longer at back. We are trying to make the pleats bigger so it gives a nice shape.

Actual Gown
The actual garment’s shape came out quite nice. Because of the fact that this fabric doesn’t have rough edge, we make the outer panel is more dramatic and more layering compare to the original sketch. However the fabric cannot be ironed flat, once it was being bended and folded, it will leave a fold line which is very obvious on the white Tyvek.
