Reflection For Capsule Collection

For this collection, I do focus try on more fabric manipulation and couture technique like weaving and embroidery. I’m very happy with the outcome of my embroidery. It makes this collection more delicate and unique. What is also good is that the color and the print of the whole collection look really tuneful and refreshing. The proportion of this collection is very flattering, not only on the mannequins but also very suitable for average Asian young woman’s figure. As a commercial collection, I do catch the trend and the color of the upcoming season.

However, I need to work on things like how to make the shape more interesting. At this point, I’m only adding some interesting details like panels, style line or folds. However, the shape and the construct of a garment still can be anticipated. Moreover, the finishing of the garment is also very important. There are tons of ways to clean finishing of a garment but what is the best one for the design? For look1 and 2, I’m mainly using flat felt seams and French seam, however I realized that my design has a lots of layers and it makes it very hard and very difficult to fold back and do a topstitch. For my look3, I over lock the whole dress however it makes my garment looks cheap. Finally for look4, I found the most suitable way to finishing the garment is that using bias tape to bind the seam. It really solves the issue and looks very neat.
